Long-awaited European debut of American painter Lois Dodd

Dodd is a chronicler of what others seem to miss. Katy Hessel

Dodd's small, intimately scaled paintings are almost always completed in one plein-air sitting. Her subjects include trees, laundry on clotheslines, New England outbuildings, lush summer gardens, and views of and through windows. She often returns to familiar motifs repeatedly at different times of the year with dramatically varied results.

Her paintings insist on the worth of what is often overlooked, revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary, and inviting viewers to slow down, to look closely, and to find meaning in the passing moment.

With contributions by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries; Janice McNab, fellow at the Women's International Study Center (Santa Fe); Karen Wilkin, New York-based curator and critic specializing in twentieth-century modernism; Katy Hessel, art historian and founder of The Great Women Artists podcast; Louise Bjeldbak Henriksen, curator at Kunstmuseum Den Haag; and many others.
